Back in high school, my friends and I spent one summer-overnight up in the mountains. Since one of my friends owned a farm and a house there, we wanted to have a bonding session away from home plus experience different kinds of summer activities. It was technically our first time spending the break out of town together with some farm animals and a different kind of weather. It was also our chance to have fun roasting hotdogs and marshmallows in a bonfire and to stargaze before going to sleep.
The experience was great, and soon after, we found ourselves spending the sembreak in that same farmhouse the year after.
As time passed we finally graduated from high school and entered the world of college. Though a number of us went to different universities including abroad, we still got to stay in contact with each other no matter how far apart we were. Occasionally, we would meet each other up when we were free, but recently our group wouldn't be complete due to different schedules.
This summer though, we all found out we were free on a certain weekend. It was such a coincidence that even our friends from abroad were going to be around that time. What good timing!
We wanted to do something special knowing that we were going to be complete as a group again. We kind of got tired of baking and watching movies, until we remembered the farmhouse.
So on that weekend, we drove up to the mountains. When we reached the house, it still had the same rustic look; it was a house made of wood and bamboo and was surrounded by house and plant ornaments. It looked pretty much the same, save for the grass that was growing around the area.
During the day we did the same things we did back in high school; play around with the farm animals, cook our meals, eat junk food, and take pictures. And by night time, we found ourselves around the bonfire once again, roasting marshmallows and making s'mores.
Soon after, we exchanged stories about college life, talked about our futures, and recalled the crazy stuff we did when we were young. As time passed, we all got sleepy and we got ready for bed.
Since we were ten girls and there was technically only one bedroom in the house, we divided ourselves into two groups of five, where five would sleep on a shared mattress in the bedroom while the rest would sleep on the wooden couches and on the floor in the living room, which was just right outside the room. I was to sleep with my sister inside the bedroom since we were one of the first to enter.
In the middle of the night, I woke up to go to the bathroom. It was really dark, and knowing that the bathroom was still located outside the living room, which was technically the outside of the house, I had to feel through where I was going, otherwise I would've stepped or hit one of my friends and wake them up. Plus, I was lazy to use my flashlight.
After my bathroom trip, I didn't feel as sleepy, so I decided to stay outside for a while. The night quiet, save for the occasional cricket chirping, and from time to time, there would be a slight breeze. It was probably around 10 minutes that I stayed outside, looking at the sky, then I felt sleepy again. But something bothered me when I was about to enter the house again, because I thought something was watching me from the window.
Being paranoid, I decided to sleep in the living room with the others, fearing I might bump into something scary. Or worse, something that would follow me to sleep. So I woke up one of my friends sleeping on the floor to give me some space. Thankfully, she did, and six of us were able to fit.
In the morning, we were eating breakfast out in the mini field just right in front of the house. We were busy with our food when one of my friends said,
"I saw something creepy last night."
Surprised, we asked what happened.
"I woke up and saw the door open last night. I wanted to close it but I saw someone inside the living room, walking. I hid under my blanket then--"
At this point, we all started laughing because of the way we imagined her and how she told the story.
"Hey! It was creepy, okay?!" she exclaimed. "What would you do if you saw that?"
"Okay, sorry! Just keep going." I said, slightly snickering.
She then continued saying that she waited a bit and decided to close the door when she felt brave enough to get out of bed. But when she was about to close it, she saw an extra person sleeping in the living room.
"HAHA! Dude! That was me! I went to the bathroom and stepped out for a bit then I decided to sleep in the living room because I got scared to go in the bedroom because it was dark!" I said, laughing really hard.
Everyone else started laughing again and even the friend I slept beside last night with agreed to what I said.
But she got serious and interrupted our laughter and said,
"Don't joke around. If that was you then last night, who was the one beside your sister?"

Edit: This didn't really happen. The events are fictional. But we really did have a trip to the mountains.
