A little huge surprise

Hello, everyone!

I can't believe it, it's two more days till New Year's Day 2013! Anticipating 2012 and its 'end' only seemed like yesterday; all the hypes of doomsday, the "end of the Mayan calendar"--everything happened so fast! Now here we are, looking forward (I hope) and anticipating another year of who-knows-what's-in-store-for-us. In relation to that, I want to share a little story of what happened to my family and me yesterday. It's nothing too big, but perhaps it would somehow brighten up your remaining days of 2012. 2013 after all is fast approaching, and I'm sure we would all want to start it right.

Meanwhile, two days before Christmas

Greetings, everyone! Welcome to my very first post.

To start off, I'd just want to greet you all a very merry Christmas! I know two days have already passed but I'm sure it won't hurt to still spread some Christmas cheer at least till the end of the month. I hope everyone had a great time celebrating!

As of now, I have nothing much to post about, but I'd like to share some photos I have taken some days before Christmas. One night, I decided to step out of the house and I spotted some nice looking Christmas lights around our house (yes, I was actually not aware that they were put up!). They were so colorful that I decided to play around with them by taking pictures. To add a bit of fun to it, I decided to try this "photography trick" I came across in Canon Digital Camera - Philippines' official Facebook page. If you're familiar with the term "bokeh", or at least heard of it, the post had to do with making shapes out of the "unfocused" background lights of a photo. Here's the link that I referred to: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152352014560704&set=a.250923520703.297833.199693620703&type=1&theater

Around one or two years ago, I actually came across this idea but never got to do it. Luckily, I bumped into the post mentioned above and thankfully, since it was Christmas break (and the best time to view nice lights at night), I finally had the chance to try it out!

I also referred to this blog and it helped me a lot: http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/2011/05/photography-diy-how-to-make-your-own.html

I'm sure that some of you would want to try this out so there's the link! It's very easy to understand and fun to read at the same time.

Below are some photos I took. This will be where I end my post. For now, merry Christmas once again! Hope you enjoy some of the photos as much as I had fun taking them.
Raindrop shaped bokeh; these lights were around a big bush behind my house
Star bokeh; I tried to focus on the leaf and keep the lights
hanging on the tree as its background light, but looks like I didn't
add enough brightness to let the leaf be shown.
Asterisk bokeh; Here I got this idea from the site I linked earlier.
This time, it has an inset origami piece to match the background.

Again, asterisk-shaped bokeh this time with my favorite notebook on a tree branch!
What kind of tree the notebook is on, I am not quite sure.
